Savage Divide Expedition for Amazon Game Studio's New world: Rise of the Angry Earth expansion. I was responsible for rock placement and shaping, plus expedition wide collision of the Savage Divide expedition.
This expedition takes place in a cave where angry earth has grown throughout. The rocking pass was crucial for characterizing the different areas and boss rooms for the full expedition. The rock shaping and placement pass aided the vegetation layout artist and other world builders in understanding where to build and place supporting themed elements.
Expedition collision is unique in New World when compared to overworld player facing collision. The expedition needs to guarantee smooth and predictable player traversal for combat encounters. Lots of the rock formations and shapes and world building elements needed to be altered in order to have player collision make sense visually and physically.
Ensuring the player critical path was obstacle free and easy to read upon first inspection by the player was crucial to the expedition layout.
